The Methods Manager (Asset Reliability Manager) will deliver asset and business performance improvements across the NNL estate by ensuring that the appropriate proactive maintenance strategy and methods are developed, then implemented by the operations & maintenance teams in a safe, efficient, and consistent manner.

Responsible for setting a framework of delivery, ensuring statutory, regulatory and mandatory maintenance compliance, whilst satisfying both current and future management of NNL’s asset base, aligned to the strategic requirements of the business.

The Methods Manager (Asset Reliability Manager) role operates across the organisation and there is flexibility in the base location (Warrington, Preston, Sellafield or Workington) with regular travel to the other locations a requirement of the role.

Main Responsibilities

Main Responsibilities for Methods Manager:

The Methods Manager (Asset Reliability Manager) role is the provision of subject matter expert with knowledge, on front line asset care strategies, to maximise performance from the NNL asset base.

  • To support the Asset Management function in the development and implementation of short and long term, maintenance strategies.
  • Identify any areas for future efficiency savings, through improved asset care strategies and sharing best practice across the organisation.
  • Identify operational problems caused by underperforming assets. Investigate enhancement options and initiate, manage, and support improvement plans, to safeguard our performance commitments.
  • Production of management information and performance reports, alongside the onward presentation to key stakeholders across the business. 
  • Provide knowledge, expertise and support to teams undertaking all predictive and preventative maintenance activities, such as calibration, lubrication, thermography, vibration analysis, laser alignment, portable appliance testing and any other specialist reliability maintenance techniques and methodologies.
  • Assist in the implementation and commissioning of capital projects, to ensure that effective maintenance strategies are applied to new assets. 
  • Assist in the development of NNL’s asset management strategic roadmap, aligned to ISO55001.
  • Promote the delivery of a health and safety centric culture within the teams.  
  • Contribute to the development of operator asset care activities through change initiatives and embed the required changes within the teams performing them. 
  • Support and promote training and development plans, to maintain a highly skilled work force. 
  • Support development of the annual maintenance budgets for the area, alongside delivery of our services within the financial constraints.

The Ideal Candidate

Essential Criteria for Methods Manager:

Professional level knowledge is required from the Methods Manager (Asset Reliability Manager) with a depth of know how in technical and specialised fields. This know how is built on an understanding of engineering concepts, principles, experience and practical application in an organisational context. 

  • Degree Qualified (Electrical, Mechanical, Instrumentation) or HND in an equivalent discipline.
  • Demonstrable experience in a similar role in a regulated industry.
  • Reliability Centred Maintenance/FMEA practitioner or demonstratable knowledge of the practical application of the methodology.
  • Qualified to Certificate or Diploma level within the Institute of Asset Management (IAM) or demonstrable knowledge of the practical application of the asset management processes.
  • Demonstrable practical engineering knowledge of physical assets and associated management activities. 
  • Demonstrable knowledge of Nuclear safety case and Engineered safety systems.
  • Ability to communicate key information both verbal and written with customers, regulators, suppliers, and stakeholders.
  • Ability to obtain SC level security clearance (this includes but is not limited to identity, employment, financial and criminal record checks plus 5 years’ worth of UK residency).
