The plant engineer – security is a role which will support the ongoing security classification of the facility as well as supporting future projects. The plant engineer will report to the Engineering Manager to ensure the company's continued compliance to all regulations governing the nuclear industry and Site Licence Conditions. The role is responsible for monitoring change, leading on incident and event management, and assessing the impact and coordination of the activities required to achieve compliance in the most effective way for the business.
The ideal candidate will be experienced in working in a regulatory and engineering capacity; detail orientated and is able to work to stringent deadlines.
Main Responsibilities for Plant Engineer (Security):
- Security Compliance: the Plant Engineer (Security) shall be responsible for ensuring compliance to the relevant site’s engineering procedures and understands, as appropriate, the applicable principles associated with disciplined operations and disciplined maintenance.
- Develop and Maintain Security Maintenance Processes: the Plant Engineer (Security) will be responsible for constantly challenging the maintenance processes on plant ensuring the plant is operated and maintained to appropriate standards (e.g. TBoM process, obsolescence reviews etc.)
- Interface with Design on plant modifications and improvements: The Plant Engineer (Security) shall be the primary interface with Design Team on any changes to plant affecting their area(s) of responsibility.
- Trending of Plant Information: the Plant Engineer (Security) shall perform regular reviews of appropriate logs, equipment parameters, and work request histories and analyse trends. They shall make recommendations to the relevant Engineering Managers (Central and Windscale) to improve systems and processes based on the results.
- Evaluate Security Equipment Performance: the Plant Engineer (Security) shall actively observe equipment in operation and perform periodic walk-downs on plant to maintain a current awareness of equipment condition and performance. They shall make recommendations to the Engineering Manager to improve systems and processes based on the results.
- Subject Matter Expert Knowledge: the Plant Engineer (Security) as Subject Matter Expert shall assist in the investigation of reportable occurrences or operating events and in the preparation of associated reports and root cause determinations. They shall provide support to Laboratory Operations as required, helping to resolve any equipment related issues. They shall keep abreast of all applicable Rules & Regulations and have the authority to enforce application within their area(s) of responsibility.
- Sharing of Best Practice: the Plant Engineer (Security) shall attend any Forums (internal or external) as requested to keep abreast of best practice around other facilities. They shall be responsible for sharing and implementation of any learning around their own area(s) of responsibility.
- Support the Asset Management Program: the Plant Engineer (Security) shall be responsible for providing advice on ageing plant and carrying out the appropriate condition assessment techniques. They shall be responsible for ensuring these reports are fed back to the Plant Engineer (Asset) for processing.
The Ideal Candidate
Essential Criteria for Plant Engineer (Security):
- Degree Qualified (electrical discipline) or HND in an equivalent discipline. Relevant experience may be considered in lieu of stated qualifications.
- Holds an electrical craft apprenticeship.
- Holds IOSH Managing Safely or equivalent as a minimum qualification. NEBOSH General Certificate would be desirable.
- Good general security equipment awareness but with demonstrable knowledge.
- Provide evidence of having initiative and ability to plan and direct own work and work independently.
- Ability to communicate key information both verbal and written with customers, suppliers and stakeholders
- Evidence of self-motivation with demonstrable levels of drive, energy and resilience.
- Ability to demonstrate conservative decision making, even in pressure situations.
- Ability to undertake an emergency response role in an incident or emergency situation.
- Demonstrable knowledge of the operational & maintenance requirements associated with their area(s) of control.
- Ability to interface on a technical level with Design & Delivery Operations.
- Ability to achieve DV level clearance.
