To join the NNL Post Doctorate programme you will have a PhD in the Novel testing of materials mechanical or physical properties, particularly in remote operation of equipment. 

You will be a UK National, have lived in the UK for at least 5 years and be able to achieve SC level security clearance.

You will be self-motivated, organised, and able to plan and manage your own time.

Main Responsibilities

You will join the Post Irradiation Examination materials testing and rig development area. A Materials PhD and fundamental knowledge of this discipline is essential for this role.
You will be involved with the collecting and analysing data on irradiated material characteristics and testing. The role will also involve aspects of measurement technique development including implementing new techniques/methods and assisting in improvement of existing techniques. 

In addition to undertaking work in the UK’s high active fuel examination facility, you may be required to visit customer and supplier sites based in the UK. 

You will be required to analyse data collected from fuel tested and examined in NNL’s active handling facilities to provide reports of findings for internal and external stakeholders. You will also be required to understand and operate experimental rigs for characterisation and testing of irradiated materials.

Your two-year scheme will provide the opportunity to develop your technical knowledge and skills whilst providing you with an insight into NNL’s strategy and direction. You will receive an overview of how the company operates and delivers its projects. 

You will undertake personal development through training aligned to your personal development plan and understand your strengths, weaknesses, and behaviours. You will receive a personal budget to support your development within your field of expertise.

As part of the selection process for the Post Doctorate programme you will complete a Technical Interview against the skills and competencies required for this role.
