Support the delivery and management of NNL’s innovation portfolio, promoting an innovative culture across the business to ensure NNL can deliver nuclear science that benefits society. 
The location is flexible, can be based in Warrington or Workington.

Main Responsibilities

Main Responsibilities for Technology Commercialisation Officer:

  • Assess ideas and award funding to commercially viable opportunities submitted from within NNL.
  • Administer top-down challenges from initial engagement with the challenge holders through to successful project delivery.
  • Support the Head of Innovation in commercialising viable technologies.
  • Maintain the Innovation database, keeping an accurate track of projects and initiatives.
  • Perform benchmarking of technologies against the state of the art.
  • Report innovation statistics to stakeholders.
  • Generate internal communications and build relationships across the business to drive engagement with NNL’s Innovation agenda.
  • Identify external innovation challenges and funding which colleagues can apply for.
  • Support developing partnerships between NNL and 3rd parties, working with fellow Professional Services colleagues as required.

The Ideal Candidate

Essential Criteria for Technology Commercialisation Officer:

  • Degree or equivalent in a Science or Engineering discipline.
  • Ability to research, digest, analyse and present material clearly and concisely for internal and external audiences.
  • Ability to see the potential in technologies which could be adopted, including those from other sectors.
  • Excellent attention to detail.
  • Be self-motivated and have good time management and organisational skills: be able to define priorities and work flexibly and effectively under pressure to meet demanding (and sometimes conflicting) deadlines, within set time / financial constraints.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills, able to establish and maintain effective working relationships and communicate with senior personnel.
  • Proficient in use of Microsoft Office Suite including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, etc.

Desirable Criteria for Technology Commercialisation Officer:

  • Experience in a similar role or previous experience of commercialising technologies.
  • Understanding of intellectual property practices.
  • An understanding of the nuclear industry and how it links to the wider energy sector.
  • Experience in Project Management.
  • Experience in an external engagement role or similar.
