Job Introduction

We are currently Recruiting for a Quantity Surveyor to provide the provision of expert support to Customer Experience, Delivery Operations and Strategy Science Innovation teams to ensure robust commercial practises to help secure and deliver the right opportunities both within the UK and overseas. 

This expert advice will create value, maximise earnings to reinvest whilst safeguarding NNL’s commercial interests to ensure business targets are achieved. 

Main Responsibilities

Main responsibilities: 

  • Ownership and autonomy to provide all required commercial support to projects from inception through to completion.
  • Providing commercial guidance to project teams to identify and maximise opportunity and risk.
  • Leading / supporting project cost reporting, final accounts, audits and dispute resolution.
  • Leading / supporting process improvement activities and business change projects as agreed with the Commercial Manager(s) / Commercial Director.
  • Provide pre-contract support to bid teams, including review and negotiation of pricing.
  • Ensure appropriate pre and post contract support to secure contract changes in a timely manner and maximise earnings to reinvest.
  • Support project cash management and cost accounting.

The Ideal Candidate

Experience & Skills – e.g. technical skills 

  • Bachelor’s degree in Quantity Surveying or other relevant topic.
  • Experience of advising on commercial / contract and business opportunity and risk.
  • Experience of delivering NEC3 and bespoke contracts.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills – confidence, drive, challenge, influencing skills, communications.
  • Very commercially focused with an understanding of the operations which impact a business and how risk is managed optimally for the sometimes opposing needs of the Business and Customers.
  • Ability to work in a high pressure environment to demanding deadlines.
  • Understanding of, and ability to critically appraise, estimates and programmes.
  • Desirable but not essential – Experience of UK Government contracting (Public Contract Regulations).
  • Desirable but not essential – Broad contract law knowledge.
