Job Introduction

Job Purpose:

The proposed role is to provide technical support within the technical capability of Effluent and Environmental Chemistry in the provision of nuclear decommissioning and environmental clean up services with an emphasis on the development of models for chemical processes and the use of chemical speciation tools to interpret and analyse chemical and environmental data.

Main Responsibilities

Principal Accountabilities:

•    Undertake duties as directed by the Capability Manager, Technical Lead and/or Lead Technologist. 
•    Interface with Customers to develop project work and maintain relationships.
•    Define and contribute to proposals and Research and Development (R&D) programmes.
•    Deliver research projects including supporting team members. 
•    Provide technical expertise and guidance on issues appropriate to their discipline.                                                 
•    Carry out the interpretation and presentation of results including contributions to Technical Memoranda and Reports. 
•    Work alongside project/programme managers and customers to ensure that work is delivered to time, cost, quality and safety requirements.
•    Keep abreast of developments in their own field and apply them to projects.
•    Provide support to develop the skills and abilities of others for the benefit of the company. 
•    Support team to meet objectives.

The Ideal Candidate

Qualifications & Experience:

Essential skills / Qualifications;
•    PhD in chemistry, environmental chemistry, geochemistry or geoscience.
•    Experience in chemical speciation modelling e.g. PHREEQC, GWB, GEMS.
•    Excellent communication skills with the ability to communicate with all levels of personnel. 
•    An experienced practitioner with demonstrable years industrial or academic experience with regards to chemical modelling. 
•    A proven track record in producing high quality technical reports and /or journal publications. 
•    Proven ability to analyse data and act upon findings.
•    Proven ability to present technical information to others in the technical community, customers and academia where necessary.
•    Good problem solving, analytical thinking and decision-making skills.
•    Demonstrated ability to work in a team environment.
•    Strong computer skills including proficiency in MS Office.

Desirable skills / qualifications
•    Experience with object oriented programming (C++, Java, Python) and FORTRAN programming
•    Experience in data analysis e.g. R, Python, MatLab
•    Experience in radiochemistry
•    Experience in microbiology and/or microbial geochemistry
•    Knowledge of radioactive waste disposal and nuclear safety cases.
•    Pre-existing understanding of effluent management and waste characterisation related to nuclear applications. 
•    Experience in hydrogeological and reactive transport modelling.
•    Membership of a Professional Institute.
•    Experience in the design, planning and interpretation of experiments. 
•    Full clean driver’s license and willing to travel occasionally
