Job Introduction

NNL is not like any other business, and our Apprenticeships are like no other. Our Apprentices are our future, which is why we have a dedicated apprentice programme which supports our apprentices in their personal development whilst they are completing their apprenticeship.

To welcome you into the business, all our NNL apprentices join a 3-day induction programme. This will give you an understanding of the business, the programme you will follow and what we’ll expect from you during your apprenticeship. Following your induction, you’ll be supported through your apprenticeship journey focusing on personal development. This covers a range of skills from time management to team working. We’ll learn about you together.

We even have a dedicated apprentice Advisor who is there to ensure that you are settling into your apprenticeship at NNL, both in the workplace and at College.

Main Responsibilities

Craft Electricians maintain and repair a diverse range of electrical equipment that is essential to the safety and efficiency of all areas of our sites. Highly skilled with a logical and methodical approach to their work, electricians work with electrical equipment and supplies on a wide range of engineering machinery and equipment.

For the first year of the Craft Electrical Apprenticeship you will spend your time at the onsite training facility which will teach you all the key engineering skills you will require as part of your apprenticeship. You will learn about:

  • Health and safety
  • Electrical installation
  • Maintenance
  • Soldering
  • Fault-finding
  • Electronics
  • Instrumentation
  • Electrical safety
  • Safe use of tools
  • Engineering Drawings

Following your first year at the training school you will then join the NNL Craft team and attend College on a day release basis.

The Ideal Candidate

Perfect colour vision is essential for the intricate work involved, including:

  • Controlling and maintaining instrumentation equipment
  • Measuring and regulating process variables accurately, such as the flow rate of liquids or gases, temperature or pressure
  • Installing a range of electrical projects from domestic home circuits to sophisticated, highly complex machinery and equipment in major processing plants and factories
  • Maintaining and testing electrical and instrumentation equipment, systems and appliances
  • Diagnosing and fault-finding problems with electrical equipment

You’ll already have a good academic background when you apply for an apprenticeship with us. You should have attained or be on track to achieving 5 GCSE's A-C (New Grading 9-4) including Maths & English.

NNL RECOGNISES THE UNCERTAINY THAT HAS ARISEN REGARDING THE GOVERNMENT’S DECISION TO CANCEL EXAMS IN 2021 AND TO PUT IN PLACE ALTERNATIVE ASSESSMENTS. THIS WILL BE TAKEN INTO CONSIDERATION THROUGHOUT OUR APPRENTICE RECRUITMENT AND ASSESSMENT PROCESS.

We’re looking for people who can be part of our future. People who want to succeed and have the commitment and motivation to get there. People who ask questions and demand answers, who’ll be open to learning and work hard.

We’re looking for bright, enthusiastic achievers who’ll want to be part of our mission to grow the nuclear industry.

Applicants must be 16 or over. Due to the nature of our work we can only accept applications from those who have held UK residency for the last 5 years
